Chunky Apple Cranberry Sauce
At the farmer’s market, I bought a few different kinds of apples planning to make a plain apple sauce as I’ve done before. Instead of regular sauce though, I thought I’d improve on my recipe by adding a few holiday secrets. Read through the ingredients to see what makes this no sugar apple sauce a perfect topping for Thanksgiving morning pancakes, an extraordinary side for your holiday table, or a simple snack anytime.
INSTRUCTIONS
6 medium apples
1 cup apple cider
1 cup dried cranberries
1 teaspoon lemon zest
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
a dash of teaspoon salt
Want to make this gluten-free and dairy-free? No need for any adjustments because this is already a dairy and gluten-free recipe.
Make ahead option? Once the sauce is completely cooled, it can be kept in a sealed container in the refrigerator for about two weeks.
The Simple Steps...
1. Peel, core, and chop apples into one inch chunks.
2. Place all ingredients into a medium saucepan and bring the mixture to a boil.
3. Turn down the heat to medium heat and cover the pan.
4. Cook for 10 minutes or until apples are soft.
5. Remove the pan from the heat, and using a potato masher, smash the apples until they are the chunky consistency that you desire.
6. It's time to eat! This sauce is delicious warm on it's own or on pancakes.
